Well, I'm gonna piss ya off when I say this and a few others might agree. Phoenix may be a good singer, but that's Johnny Cash's music. Anyone who is a Real fan will tell you that the originals are always the best at their own stuff.
I'll give Phoenix credit. He did a wonderful job in the movie. So did Rease Witherspoon. But the originals are always better. But that's not to say that I wouldn't listen to Phoenix singing Cash's songs. As I said, he did a wonderful job, along with Witherspoon.

Now for an answer. The song was Folsom Prison Blues. and make no mistake, Cash was never in prison. I've seen some people here and there getting the idea that he was. He spent time in jail but not in prison, except for the concert at Folsom prison.
