your processor is 64 bit
> this is good thing, cause you are able to run 64 bit operating system and programs, as and when support base is made available
> also you are at liberty to install 32 bit operating system and make do for now

so, from the limited matter in your question, i gather the operating system pre-installed is 32 bit

hope this helps clear the air

Yes, an AMD 64 chip will support 64 bit processing. However, other parts of your system also must be able to support 64 bit processing for your system to run at 64 bit, including your operating system.

You can get a 32 bit or 64 bit version of Windows. If your AMD is 64bit but your windows is 32bit then the Amd will run in 32 bit for Windows.

There can be a speed difference between 32itand 64bit but the biggest difference is in maximum memory. 32bit has max 3.25GB Ram

Having a 64-bit CPU on a 32-bit OS is probably the best CPU you can have with a 32-bit OS because its 1.5x faster at processing. However the OS won't use the CPU at full potential because of this, but then again for right now 32-bit processing is just fine.

It probably means that your operating system isn't 64-bit.
