There really isn't anything to make it go away faster in either alt med or conventional med. It is a bruise and you simply have to wait for it to heal on its own. Could take 1-3 weeks, depending upon how much bruising is present.

Cold compresses or cold paks applied in the first day help to minimize the bruising, after that you can only wait.

The reason why you would see old movies or TV where someone would put a frozen steak on a black eye is because there are enzymes in the meat that actually help the bruise go away faster.

A more sanitary way to deal with it is obviously good old fashioned ice within 30 minutes of the injury, but if you've waited... Then, its too late but to let mother nature take its course.

Homeopathic Arnica, should be available at a healthfood store. You can probably find 30c, and best dose for acute problem like that is 2-4 pellets dissolved under tongue 3 times during the day (for one day). It tastes really sweet because it is a sugar base, and it is very safe to use. It is good after any trauma, especially head injuries or "weekend warrior" pains.
