The King family seems to think he didn't, or at least, that there should be a trial. He confessed after capture, which prevented a trial from taking place.
I remember just before Ray died, being so surprised at the statement from the family, made by Dexter King, who resembles his father so much it was almost spooky.
There's a CNN story attached about this. Evidently Dexter asked him point blank, did he kill his father, and Ray said he didn't and Dexter said he believed him.

I don't know that he did. Finger prints in this context mean nothing, especially if one questions the credibility of the people who say the fingerprints were found and were his. I didn't conduct any comparisons myself.
Dr. King's son has said on television that he does not think that James Earl Ray shot his father.
With that out of the way I must admit I can't believe there would even be a question in your mind about why anyone would shoot Dr. King; surely that is obvious.

If he did it then it was due to being a racist and seeing MLK as a threat to the way of life he belived in..However maybe he didnt do it.he never denied having been part of a conspiracy, and having handled a rifle of the type that was used.they found the correct type rifle with his fingerprints and by trial time introduced the rifle that was used as being his rifle.some evidence suggests that they werent the same guns,he died claiming to be innocent and the King family seems to have belived him..of course our benevolent FBI and such wouldnt plant evidence, lie or outright frame someone.Or put them in prison for 35yrs without a legal trial.Never trust the goverment to be beyond anything.

I don't know. And this question has been asked before. He always talked of a certain "Raoul". But never furnished any evidence on who this guy was or what was he [or she?]. My only question is who gave him the money that helped him to travel to Canada, Portugal and Great Britain where he was finally arrested while waiting for a trip to South Africa [In South Africa some would have fed him to the crocodiles]. There is something funny here. But I don't know. Mystery. P.D.: If he was "innocent" why he travelled so far away to places he had never been?

There's some doubt about that. The prints mean nothing.
They only mean he touched this rifle at some time in the past.
