I can speak from experience here.
When I was in college, I couldn't WAIT to move off campus. Living in an apartment meant much more freedom and privacy than living in a dorm. I mean, I could at least get a room all to myself and have my own kitchen to cook in. It's also a lot easier to have people over to visit because you obviously have more room. It's also easier to live with people in an apartment because you have more space that is your own.
However, the downside to it was that I had 1 roommate out of 3 who was always late in paying her bills and WE had to end up helping her out. Also, commuter parking was very limited and I was almost always late to class because it was near impossible to find a spot (even if I left early).
So, I moved BACK on campus after a year of living off campus in an apartment. Living in an apartment was more expensive, a hassle with parking, and a pain with a roommate who didn't always pay her part of it.
Moving on campus was so much easier because I didn't have to worry about finding a parking spot. I could also run down the hall to hang out with friends instead of having to arrange a get together to see them. It was so much more convenient.
I really didn't mind living in a dorm because the only difference for me was that I just had to share more.

I think living in an apartment. Maybe with another person to split the bill. The dorms on campus cost a fortune! They are very convenient, but you pay for that convenience. No, I think an apartment would be better. But if you like the positive aspect of living in a dorm, then I would say go for it. There is NOTHING like the experience of dorm life.

I think most people should start out in a dorm, if it's available. You get to meet a lot of people and learn how to live with them. For most kids, it's an eye-opener. Once you have lived in a dorm and learned some basic responsibilities for taking care of yourself, an apartment is a fine option. I just think a dorm offers you social interactions you might not get from initially having an apartment.

come on man..are you joking? dorm is terrible. i lived there when i was homeless for a week, until i found a room share in a house. there is so many downsides in a dorm that I'm not even going to point them out. also the cheapest price i found is 25$ a day. if you add that to a month, you could easy get a private room, if not more than that.

For the first year or two, dorm. Many colleges require their freshmen to live on campus for the experience. so the choice is not yours. You have the opportunity to be more involved on campus if you dorm. Move out as an upperclassman. You can enjoy some freedom then.

If you're going to be a freshman at college i'd suggest living in the dorms. You get to meet a social network that you won't get off campus. Alot of times stuff is free that you have to pay for like cable or internet. It's usually fun and you'll be able to find people to buy you beer errrrr uh help you study i mean. Plus, the one big benefit of living on campus. Ladies. Lots and lots of 18 year old girls in the building or floor next to yours. The dorms can be quite a cool experience. I had a blast.......

The benefits of dorm life is a quick strike to campus and reduce care expenses. the down side is unless you have an ameniable roommate, sex will be rather hard to do properly

Some schools require you to live in a dorm for the first year or two if you don't live with your parents. You might not have the option, depending on your school.

Renting an apartment. More room, More privacy, Not having to deal with loud obnoxious other college students.
A dorm isn't so bad though. Just less privacy and you can't always have it how you want it.
