Just curious on what people think about this :)
Yes, Heather has mild aspergers, a form of autisim. I didn't know that until tonight. What do you guys think about them putting a person with aspergers on the show? Do you think it is fair to Heather and/or the other girls? What are your thoughts?

I think it is fair and pretty awesome. It's not fair that Tyra is totally exploiting her and her condition. But it is also getting it out in the open and hopefully giving some kids out there with the same condition some more confidence. I also am really happy because earlier today I saw Heather in a new Dolce and Gabbana commercial.

We shouldn't categorize people because of health issues. I have seen many people who have a health issue, working for years with one particular business. There are people who may not be able to work because their condition is so serious, but "Heather has MILD aspergers." You saw her on tv, she is capable of working, and there are employers who are kind hearted and respect people's health conditions.
I think Heather should be treated as a human being, and anyone else who has autism. I believe it was fair for Heather to be able to go on the show. She should be blessed to have that experience.

I think it's great she was on the show and I'm sad that she got booted off tonight. I'd never heard of this show, let alone seen it, until this subject came up on an aspie forum I post to. So I got curious and now know more about modeling than I ever might have wanted to know :)

Seriously, anyone with the grit to do what she's done gets my admiration. Being confined with that gaggle of young women would be hard, I think, if you didn't have AS. If it were me, I'd have gone bonkers.

So--more power to her!
As for being fair to the other girls, what about this situation seems unfair?

okay, i guess i'm coming from a different perspective.
i'm a mother of an autistic little girl. i think heather is such a great role model for her. she knows now that having autism doesn't have to prevent her from doing the things she wants to do in life.
it absolutely disgusts me how most of the girls go out of their way to try to bring her down. no, she isn't perfect, but pretty damn close!
heather has never said that she couldn't do the lines of the commercial or memorize her speech because of her asperger's. not once!
i really feel she is not using that for her advantage.
bianca is the worst critic of heather because she is not secure in herself. she is barely hanging on in this competition and she knows it!
it shows a very ignorant and small person to pick on someone on things that they can't help just to feel better about themselves.
really sad.

I think her Aspergers is being exploited a tad. That she has it and is attempting to be a model, which requires lots of socializing is remarkable, and in that respect it makes her a role model.

Beyond that though, there is no need to keep mentioning it I don't think.

I am not sure that everyone with AS would want their AS mentioned every time they did something remarkable and I think if it gets mentioned too much, people will feel she is using her AS to exploit sympathy for her, which may work against her after a while.

Then again, it is good that there is POSITIVE media attention to AS for a change given the stories we hear about criminals who claim "My AS made me do it."

I think it's cool that they put her on with a disability. I'm sure she understood going into it how much more difficult it would be for her than for some of the other girls, but she wanted to see how far she could go. She's really doing well, I think. She's awkward socially, and has trouble with public speaking, but otherwise she's been really amazing! I don't think she has what it takes to win it, but I think she's awesome and really inspiring and I'm glad she made it this cycle.

i dont like how she let everyone know right away. Mercedes had lupis and kept it from everyone because she didnt want them to feel sorry for her. i can see how heathers would get in the way more, but i also can see why bianca is getting frustrated. but im glad that tyra said that since she was fed the lines then every single one should have been perfect.

I think it's great that she's getting a chance to model and everything but the girls on the show are right: they shouldn't have to baby her like she's 5 and tell her what to do...she won't make it in the modeling world if she can't do something on her own...she's kind of starting to annoy me now - I still think she's beautiful and everything but I think she needs to go...

I think she should function like everyone else. It would only be unfair to other contestants if they give her advantages (like last week when Mr. J fed her her lines). If the judges can objectively judge, its all good.
