Guys would probably feel pretty yucky too. Just give her a couple extra hugs and encourage her to exercise. It will really help alleviate the symptoms.

It is different for every woman, for me its not too bad. I usually have a bout of wild emotions for 2 hours and some cramps. During those two hours I try to stay away from everyone as much as possible because I know I am a bit on edge. Cramps are cured with Midol.
However I had a friend who would literally throw up because the pain of her cramps were so intense. She always missed school a couple days a month. Needless to say this was abnormal and she eventually went to the doctor for it.

Oh, stop it. You're not as uncaring as you like to paint yourself simply because you were born with your genitalia on the outside. The "tough guy" act is social, not biological, and men can be tempered by their families to be either jerks to women or considerate of them. There's a lot of leeway there, it's definitely not innate to be "tough and emotionless"...
But anyway, men have hormonal cycles each month just like women. There's a hormone spike in men roughly once every 21 days just like there is in women, but the only difference is that you can physically TELL when a woman is having her "hormonal spike".
You know, it's really interesting to me. Popular opinion considers females the "subtle sex" and men the "rip-roarin', obvious-as-hell sex", but if that were true, why do men's bodies hide things from them this way? The female body comes right out and says it: "Hey, honey! You're having 'that time of the month' again! Please make a note of it!" You poor fellas don't have it so easy. I kind of pity you, to be honest. =(

Actually, men do PMS, or at least behaviourally analogue, and most of us dont really feel it, so logic would lead us to accept one of these 2 statements.
1) It is milder
2) we handle it better

Men would handle in it the same ways and different degrees that women do. Some would breeze through it and others would suffer, with lots of variables in between.
Male Menopause is real and seems to cause a lot of the same symptoms as PMS in women.
Edit to Gum Drop Boy: Thanks for the link. Interesting page.

Sure, why not? You put your mind to it you can do just about any thing. You could take the same things that we do; for instance Ginseng for women and Black Cohosh to name two. Just like we need to, in order to combat the effects of PMS you need to drink plenty of water, leave out the caffeine, exercise is also a good idea. So sure you can as plain as the nose in my face.

Actually, PMS seems to be more of a mental issue rather than a physical or hormonal one. Psychological studies have shown that women reporting on their attitudes and emotions during a month showed little change due to PMS, but at the end of a month, when asked to reflect on the same emotions, they then reported more negativity when on their period. It is estimated that less than 10% of women actually suffer from true PMS symptoms.

Yes, I think guys could handle pms about as well as women, but it's NOT pleasant. But I think men would seriously freak if they had to deal with bleeding from their crotches for a week every month!! I also believe they'd demand sedatives during internal exams and get disturbed when they were expected to just lay back and deal with it. They couldn't handle childbirth....No way no day.

i think they would adapt, just as women do. Every woman suffers PMS differently and we ourselves have to adapt to it, so I'm sure men could too.

There is a form of male PMS. It's sometimes called IMS (Irritable Male Syndrome):
http://www.4-men.org/testosterone/pms.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irritable_Male_Syndrome
In regards to female PMS, males could endure it if they had the capacity to undergo it. PMS doesn't kill, and a lot of women actually get annoyed when other women use it as an excuse, as well.
