The joke is that a high percentage of people who try out guitars in music stores will test the guitar by playing "Stairway To Heaven". If you work in a music store long enough, you'll start to hate songs such as that. I know I wanted to put up a sign that said "No "Stairway To Heaven" or "Smoke On The Water"" when I worked in one.

Every guy of that era, when given a guitar, would try and screech out the riff to "Stairway." The joke is that the people at the music store have gotten sick of listening to every guy (or perhaps, just Wayne) play "Stairway" so they had to put up the sign.

When you learn guitar Stairway is the first song you learn coz it is easy. So every person who has picked up a guitar knows the first 4 bars of Stairway, so everyone plays it andf I guess the ppl who work in the store have had enough.
