I don't agree with the God vs. Santa Claus analogy. That's because Santa, if he were real, would be a human being. He would be a physically living being whose existence is limited to this earth. But since there is no one on earth claiming that identity, it's safe to say he's not real. God, on the other hand, is not a being whose existence is limited to this physical world. So, the same standard of disproving Santa's existence doesn't apply to God. You cannot say for a fact that God exists "only in belief" -- therefore, it's not "safe" to think that is true. Especially when we're well aware of the consequences for denying God. There's nothing safe at all about that. .
