What do I need to do to establish a non-profit organization?

I have a lot of plans in mind, I want to do it, I just don't know where to start. Any ideas?

Register your organization with the IRS. If you want people to make tax-free donations, it is required. If you take a salary from the organization, you will need to fill out extra forms at tax time.
You may also want to incorporate. Being non-profit does not exclude you from law suits unless you incorporate. You might also need insurance if an automobile or other property is involved.
You will also need stationary or business cards. You can buy paper at a stationary store and set something up on your computer.
