Well its not great for it, especially if its just sitting outside. My dad once went on a couple retreat with my mom, and it ended up unexpectedly snowing, and yes they had ridden the bike. So it was covered in snow. It was fine.
Just be sure to dry it off as soon as possible. If its already dry, a good waxing, and a quick rust check is all it should need.
Edit--haha riding in the rain isn't dangerous.. it builds character and puts hair on your chest! :P

There was a period of a few years when I didn't own a car. The old Triumph was my main transportation. I have learned: 1. Pain is a 60 mph raindrop. Exposed skin hurts in the rain. 2. In the spray from trucks, especially, you are invisible. 3. Goggles with windshield wipers are hard to come by. 4. That dark grease strip in the middle of each lane will drop you at 3 mph. 5. Wind chill on a wet body can incapacitate you, even if it is an otherwise warm day. I'll ride in the rain if I must, but whenever possible, I would like to avoid it. It is just not fun.

rain wont hurt it nearly as much as washing it in a typical high pressure car wash.
sunlight causes more damage than rain. on bikes left out for years the first thing to go is the seat & the insulation on the exposed wiring gets brittle & starts to shrink away from the connectors, then the clear plastic on the speedo & tach. fogs up & sometimes cracks & leaks.
after 5 or 10 years the electrical connections can start giving problems & need to be cleaned. if possible put a cover over it to keep the sun off & wax the chrome twice a year, bikes stand the weather about as well as a car.

What, I'm supposed to drive it into the living room when I get home every night?
bluffmike has a point about acid rain, but a regular waxing is enough protection.

My motorcycle has been parked outside since I moved to Florida 2 months ago. Mechanically, I have had no problems. Keeping it clean however, is another story all together.

If it is a downpour and it seeks into the under places of the body yes. But short light showers are nothing to it. Just don't leave it out too long.

Would you drink rain?
If you must leave your bike outside get a cover or a bike igloo to protect it.
Keep it waxed, including the chrome.

Nope! Not for most street bikes.
Now, riding while raining is far more dangerous.
I'm a biker and ride all year round, when it rains I have to be extra careful with my own riding and all the cagers around me.

it could rust it in if over exposure. Also the light and wind and weather could fade the shade of the paint and it wont' look as sharp. You will need to clean it more to keep it shiny, especially if it has chrome. I would throw a tarp over it.
