In Shakespeare's Macbeth, Macbeth is named Thane of Cawdor after his victory against Norway. Who was the original Thane of Cawdor? Was it Macdonwald, the Norwegian captain was was "unseamed from the nave to the chops" by Macbeth? Was it the Norwegian king himself?

The Thane of Cawdor was a Scottish traitor who fought on the side of the King of Norway. Duncan ordered him executed and bestowed his title in Macbeth. (See Act One, Scene Two, lines 51-65.)
