is that weird? i like the velvet underground to start off. i love the talking heads, the ramones, patti smith, television, richard hell and well, every other punk band from new york. the only punk bands i like that arent from new york are MC5(if you want to call them punk) Iggy Pop/the stooges, X, and the sex pistols. the rest i just cant stand. is there a reason to this madness?

Have you given other punk a few chances? Let it lie for awhile then go back to it every once in awhile, I mean if you like the Ramones and the Sex Pistols and X you've got to like the Clash and the Damned and their peers. It's funny because usually people who only like a certain area's punk usually have the snobby "There was no punk in America, punk was a British thing" attitude.

Like I said, give it awhile then re-check out the Clash, the Damned Slaughter & The Dogs, Wire, the Rezillos, the Undertones, Chelsea, the Buzzcocks, the Boys, the Vibrators, Devo, the Descendents, the Germs, the Weirdos, Eater, and all the other great outside of New York punk bands.

And just so it's clear, I love all the New York bands too.

I like the Ramones, Richard Hell & the Voidoids, Television, New York Dolls, Heartbreakers, Tuff Darts, Iggy & the Stooges, the MC 5, Sex Pistols too. But they are just a fraction of the bands I like and listen to - but come on... punk bands from England like the Clash, Eddie & the Hot Rods, Generation X, ATV, Stranglers, Wire, the and Vibrators aren't that bad!!

Yeah, you just happen to like a style that was mainly developed in New York. Every other place offer different styles of punk (like the pistols; you wouldn't think of comparing them to the Ramones, for instance. Almost apples and oranges)

I'm not real familiar of all the punk bands but you seem to cover most the 70-80 bands, what of blondie, new york dolls and violent femmes.I don't much care for the punk scene as it was not musically concise(as a musician this bothers me) but i enjoy many songs from many of the artist you like, except for patti smith I never liked her voice.Another punk band i liked was the clash.
I realize some of my examples are not new yorkers.
