Very much so.
I suppose that we don't care about our great-grandchildren not seeing bears or ice-caps... as long as we have our microwave easy-mac and leguna beach on mtv... we can't complain and don't care about the rest of the world.
New Orleans? Just a freak accident. Not my problem.

The USA single handedly does more for the enviroment and emissions than any other country in the world. So the biased Kyoto pact merely penalized us for helping the enviroment and tying our hands economically while other major polluting countries seemingly go scott free. Fact is we still are in an age where there are some savage people still held up in the world. That is very unpolitically correct, but is the honest truth. There are still people in this world without electricity, basic utilities, hygene, public works etc etc etc. Some still even live in huts, there are still real tribes in the world and still goverments that are run by religions. So I am basically saying, we truely are not equal. Until we can get countries like China to have a standard of living equal to even that of our society where basic needs and requirements are met, then why should we try to be held to some sort of accountability greater than others in the world when some of our fellow countries seem to not have any check and balance systems as it is. Anyone need some lead paint toys. I know where to get them cheap this holiday season?

the US and Australia have signed yet no longer ratified it. China signed and ratified it. a number of small international locations have not signed in any respect. word that because of the fact that China isn't an Annex one million united states, the Kyoto contract would not place any decrease on their CO2 emissions.

It's more hypocritical to sign the Kyoto protocols and NOT follow it then not to sign it at all. The US needs to clean up its act when it comes to the environment. Absolutely. However, the countries that have signed the Kyoto protocols have not lowered their CO2 emissions and have even increased them. Come to think of it, why are we holding out? You're right. We should sign it and then we can do whatever we want.

Day 1 of the Rudd government: Rudd signs the Kyoto script.
Day 2 of the Rudd government: all of Rudd's campaign workers get make-believe civil service jobs reducing the make-believe problem of CO2.

Yes, we should have been there from the beginning to set an example. However, that didn't happen, so we need to form a new pact with the world after Kyoto expires, where we would be the most important player.

You are ignorant of the facts. Any president of the US who agrees to hinder the nation's economy based on unproven theory should be impeached. China and India, two of the fastest-growing industrialized economies, are exempted from the regulations Kyoto calls for. How on Earth is that fair?

Actually it just means we read it. The impact of Kyoto is minimal and will have negligible impact at a high cost. It also ignores the impact of developing nations such as China. Kyoto is a sham.

Japan is not industrialized? They haven't signed either to my knowledge.
And of course the world wants us to sign it. It basically says the US will stop production and pay for everyone else to industrialize. It is a stupid thing for this country to even consider. It is not embarasing to not to want to cut your own throat.
