I fullfilled my year lease and moved out. My roomate stayed in the house. I paid the deposit on my own and he did not pay any of it. After I left (the landlord didn't do a walkthru before i left) My roomate instead of putting his own deposit down did some fixing up around the house (Blinds, carpet cleaning) in place of his deposit. The landlord is not giving me my money back saying he used it all to fix up the house. None of my deposit wen't the fixing the house. He is saying it took more then my deposit to fix the house and he wants the rest of money. How is my situation? What do i do? He said he sent the letter of repairs to the address( the old address) so i never recieved it. He said he didn't have to send another one. I am in Florida

His name is not on the lease. He was just an occupant

You probably won't get it back. This is a common problem. If you wish to pursue it, go see an attorney.

Demand that he present dated receipts that reflect the repairs. If he can't do that in a reasonable time (10 days or so), I'd send him a certified letter, return receipt requested, demanding full deposit in 10 days from receipt thereof.

Downside, you'll probably have to sue him in the state he is in for the money, and in small claims court.

You might try writing to the state's attorney general alleging fraud and deceptive practices, etc., and see if the AG sends a letter on his own to the landlord. Try the AG's website for instructions.
