I just partitioned my Hard drive and installed windows XP on a separate partition, but the computer only boots to XP im am unable to get it to boot to Vista, I have the option to choose a OS but only XP Shows, I can get my Vista OS Back without any changes if i put in the reinstall cd then it will only boot to Vista but both OS are on the hard drive in separate Partitions, What am i doing wrong? I have checked the BIOS and everything seems correct, how can i get my computer to recogize that as another os and be bootable

There is a file call boot.ini that XP uses might help, it is in a very prominent place of the hard drive but if you can't find it go to Control Panel -> Systems -> Advanced tab, the option of editing it is buried deep inside.

The syntax of it is very simple and immediately recognizable by most programmers out there or at least easy to figure out in a while, there is already an entry to boot XP so just put appropriate entry for Vista, might help but I don't know for sure.

I've had this problem too insert the vista disk and boot from the DVD repair the start up.
