I think craigslist is the only popular place that would be free.

However, almost all homes are sold thru the MLS, which is a pay site available only to licensed real estate agents.

Sure. Try craigslist and prepare for either no activity or only the sleaziest bargain hunters calling you with every no money down angle. There is also forsalebyowner.com which has a small fee. You're always better of with a realtor if you can find an honest one who realizes that they should deliver at least 6% value added to offset the commission.....get a referral from friends who have had a good experience with their realtor.

In the mean time do craigslist so you see what a nightmare selling your own home is.....all you'll lose is a little time.

Sure. There are many sites, where you can post free ads.
How much good it will do... is another question.

Probably. But the MLS charges and that is where home buyers look for their houses.
