Gen. Sanchez is entitled to his opinion. He served our country honorably and since he is retired, he is entitled to say what he wants to. The military did a good job. It is the politicians that are not taking advantage of that window of opportunity. The military can't win this war in Iraq alone and he knows it.

A retired general has as much right to speak on issues as any American - check out the first amendment.
People have every right to disagree with him as well - but to pretend this consititutes treason is to go against everything American stands for.
For the first answer that claims he should lose his pension - disagreeing with this administration is his right - it does not change the fact that he served his country and earned his pension.
Conservatives are obviously very afraid of any alternative view - a mentality that suggests they understand thier current policy is indefensible. I see this as a positive step - if they have recognized they are wrong perhaps them admitting it is a potential next step.

I think he should have lost his retirement pension. He knows the rules and he blatantly broke them. If you honestly believed what he had to say, then you completely missed that he has an axe to grind and was completely insubordinent and should be duly punished. Bush Sr. found it necessary to reprimand a general in the Air Force for that very same garbage back in Desert Storm. And by the way, there's very little that's "Neo" about me. I'm a throw back. A dinosaur. you on the other hand I strongly suspect of being a "Neo" lib.. How long have you been out of diapers? Sorry. But with a question worded as is yours, I just had to ask.

Thanx for that brief education.

Gen Sanchez is a civilian. He can say anything he wants to now. But you do have to take the circumstances into perspective. Even though the capture of Hussein was done on his watch, he'd been criticized for Abu Ghraib and basically fired. I take everything with a grain of salt.

It is only politics, not sound military planning, that has kept our troops in Iraq. In the mean time the Taliban have been getting stronger in Afghanistan, and no one knows where bin laden is.

The opinion of a general who was in charge in Iraq and was not able to accomplish what Petraus has , well I will wiegh it on merit. There is alot of back story to why Sanchez is retired, little research then post your question. Generals who perform badly , retire to save face, stabbing the troops they led in the back is new development. When Petrus says it's time to bring them home then I will support the commanders on the ground.

I think he is another retired General with his own opinion.

Why is he suddenly the liberal hero when he was the devil himself during the Abu Graib scandal.

Because he made a statement that you want to believe is best for the US?

Well remember he is human and we can all be wrong. As I believe he is.
