How do you go about changing your name? What is the cost? Is it hard? and would you reccomend it? I'm contemplating it because I think my name is really dull and commonplace and also I had a lot of problems in hs and low self esteem and I will be going off to college next semester and want to start new. Details please

It is a fairly simple procedure. You could probably have the paperwork done by a paralegal document preparation service.

This is best left to a lawyer to handle. The process varies a little from state to state. The process involves filing some paperwork at your local superior or district court, waiting a set number of days and posting notices of the name change in the paper of record (not the biggest newspaper in town, but a special one that handles such notices). A civil law lawyer can make sure everything is done properly and save you as much time as possible.

Once that is completed and you can prove that it is done, the judge will issue the proper paperwork and it is done. The only other thing to do is get your state ID (driver's license) and social security card corrected.

I changed my name through the military lawyers. They needed my birth cert. and you also have to have a pretty good reason to change it.
They run a search to make sure your not a criminal and trying to hide .
I was given quite a discount through the military and it still cost $600.00
You have to go to court and speak with the judge, he will ask why you want to do this, if your reason is good and your papers are in order, you should be ok.
A paralegal might be able to do it, and it would be cheaper.
