I smash them.
(We got some veg and fruit from the public market, and apparently, not all of it was good. Stupid FRUIT FLIES all flying up to my face and taunting me! I've gotten only THREE so far today! I am going to get some fly strips tomorrow. Eeeew!)

When I have that problem I use a frying pan that I made food in & just sweep it up under the nasty bugs & the grease in the pan catches them!!
I've never been afraid of bugs though, I'll smash anything with my hands including a bee once when I was little!!

I can get fruit flies, but i've accidentaly touched a house fly before and i am not squashing one,

No, I ignore them or put them outside.
We just had a TON of fruit flies and our last method took too long (she used a hand vacuum to vacuum them out of the air, she's ridiculous), so she got them all to congregate on a few grapes and then trapped them underneath an upside-down tupperware container until they died.

Never with the bare hands. Whatever is handy works though, like a shoe, kleenex, paper, and sometimes the cats chase it around till they catch it and kill it for me.

Yeah, they have to be really little like that to smash them. Bigger ones I will not touch. That is just too much for my feminine hands.

Its all about size for me...I dont hit any of the juicy ones with my hands...thats shoe material.
