I dont think he's the type of player we want anymore. Between datsyuk zetterberg filppula and others, we have a pretty well team for moving the puck and scoring. what we need is an enforcer who can also give some offense. I love downey, but theres not much he can do with only like 5 mins a night

Here's a more likely scenario...after the season, when the Jackets don't resign Federov (and his $6 million-plus salary), he signs a free-agent contract with Detroit just so he can retire as a Red Wing.
As the Jackets will be contending for a playoff spot at the deadline, they will not move him.

I doubt it, but you never know. The thing is that center is not the position they are in need of. They desperately need depth on their wings, and Federov is not going to fill that bill. So it is probably not a good fit. They can do better. All that said, they do seem to tend toward loyality to the past, so I would not count it out- even though it would probably be a mistake.

The Wings don't need him. He isn't what he was, that's okay, everyone ages. Some Wings fans hold on to images of his '97 speed, etc. Still can be threat not to be ignored, but today's Red Wings need gritty defense, esp. when the opponent is playing puck posession in their zone. Especially in the middle, around the crease to move the offense out and clear the puck when Ha-ha-hasek flops. Is Sergie up for that role?

I don't think that Detroit will get Sergei Fedorov back. (William Scott) Bowman (1933) and (Steve) Yzerman look like they are retired, though Yzerman could make a possible come-back after fifteen years straight with Bowman and Hockeytown who stands with NHL records.
Friendship is great, however business speaks first. Detroit is still a great team, though they are a different team from what "they" were twelve plus years ago; Yzerman was beginning, and they hadn't experienced Ferdorov. And in the NHL business, one or two players have to be traded for a player as valuable as Ferdorov, that is if franchises still see him as valueable as he was, say four years ago? But I don't know anything about Columbus trading him back; getting him would be one thing, right?

I seriously doubt it. I think that too many Wings fans still have a bad taste in their mouth when it comes to Sergei because of the way he left Hockeytown... Not to mention that Columbus is looking like a fairly strong team, and seems more likely to be a "buyer" come trade time.

Yup, Vinny, his career went right down the crapper
when he left. BAD career move, IMO, even though
he signed for the big $.
His chances of playing for the Wings again are
slim & none----- and slim left the building a long
time ago.
He's not a good fit right now for the RW's, and they don't need him. Also, he & Ken Holland are
not best pals.

Can't see Detroit giving up anything the Jackets need just to get him back. The Leafs are probably dumb enough to trade some kids for him to get his leadership, but I think he will want to go to a contender if he were to go anywhere.

I don't think they will. Didn't Federov and Wings management have a falling out?

I doubt it. The wings have enough people who can put the puck in the net. They need some guys that can deal some hits.
