I think I'd rather hear it from the actual combat troops than from politicians or higher up officers who just want to please the politicians.

Obviously you are right, but the troops are restrained from giving out any information on the war otherwise they may face court martial and the media is given only information by the army spokesman/spokeswoman.

It depends on what information. When I served in Desert Storm 1, we knew what was going on, but the media was wrong most of the time. The Media will pick the information to highlight that is going to sell or controversial. The truth is somewhere in the middle. Plus, in Iraq, the situation was different depending on where we went. Some supported us, others shot at us. generally speaking, you have to take what is being said with a grain of salt. I never even listened to what the politician said.

Having been enlisted most of my life, I can tell you that while I'd rather get it from someone with nothing to gain, the trouble is, when you're that far down in the trenches, all you see is mud. The guy at the bottom rarely ever sees the BIG picture.

What makes you think that troops anywhere can tell the truth, during a war, without retaliation from officers? What makes you think they are told the truth when they go to war?

Yes but some are in areas with little violence, others are in danger every hour. Need to know the circumstances of the person we are talking to.

Absolutely, talk to one of our soldiers that have been there. I don't listen to the democraps, nor do I listen to the media. I have talked to many soldiers about what is going on there, and we are doing great things. The media and the democraps don't want you to know that.

I agree but, we have to watch out for the people that have things to gain by what they say.

absolutely. but even then you have 130,000 different opinions. I've spoken with many that said they want to go back and many that said it was completely a clusterf%$# and that we never should've been there to begin with.
