...if I know I'll never be able to afford to get my master's later on? I know the maximum I'll be in college is 4 years, I'm already in debt up to my eyeballs and that's with every possible scholarship and grant. I'm a sociology major planning on becoming a counselor...is this even possible with just a bachelor's degree? If not, should I change my major to something I don't really like so I can get a job with just my bachelor's degree?

When you say you'll never be able to get your master's, do you mean you'll never be able to afford it? Don't be too sure, but you'll certainly never get it if you don't finish your bachelor's! As for becoming a counselor, the eductional requirements probably vary according to the kind of counselor you want to be. You should talk to your academic adviser and your guidance counselor for more specific information. In any case, many people finish graduate degrees by taking one or two courses a semester while they're working full -time, and there are some jobs available, though maybe not in your chosen field, for liberal arts graduates, without requiring a specific major. Something of that sort might do while you're paying off your loans and working on a master's in your field.

Bottom line: Stay in there and get your degree! You're very unlikely to regret it!

do not pay a university to teach you something you don't want to do...ever..
i just investigated what it takes to become a councelor, and it is indeed a pricey goal. perhaps you can get a 2 year from a community college and work with that for a while. when you're financially ready to take on a university and grad school bill, go for it 100%.
