Dell's standard warranty is 1 year. You can upgrade the warranty to a maximum of 5 years total.
They have options such as "Next business day" which means if something goes wrong with the hardware, they will have someone come out to your home or business to replace the part.
They offer "Return to Depot" which is a cheaper warranty, and it means that you could send your system to the depot to have it fixed if something goes wrong with the hardware. They will send FedEx or such to your door with a box and they will take it away for you and bring it back.
There is also "Complete Care" which is an additional warranty you can get, if interested, that covers "accidental" mishaps with your system. That means that if you accidentaly spilled a cup of coffee on the system, dropped it from the balcony, closed the lid with a pencil on the keyboard and broke the display, or something equally crazy happened, it's all covered!
Troubleshooting is done over the phone so that the correct part is diagnosed as needing to be replaced. You don't void the warranty by opening the chassis.
It all depends on what you wish to get. The reason I know about the warranties, is that I have three Dells in my house. My son broke his LCD on his portable system a while ago, called up, troubleshot for a bit, and had the repair guy at the door the next day. Gotta like that.
Good Luck!

The one year warranty is pretty standard on all Dell equipment, so the answer is likely yes. Go to the support part of the website and type in your serial number, it should tell you whether you have an active warranty or not.

usually they come with a 1-year warranty, if they're new. i'm sure you could upgrade to 2-3 years if you want. most warranties become void if you open the laptop tho, which means you better know what your doing when you upgrade RAM or new HDD.

usually 1 year manufactures warranties, if you want that ex-spanding, don't take it out with the shop you got it from...like PC-world, they just add extra costs to it for commission, take it from the manufacture
