I understand completely where you are coming from. Makes you wonder why don't we clean up our house first. What I am seeing with the Pakistan deal and other is that you know they knew that lady was coming back and we probably already told them we have to make a good show so we will saber rattle, but don't lose control.
They know what's coming and what to expect, but have already worked out the details. Think of the other countries we deal with that are a dictatorship. Now the deal with Israel and peace, I thought was insane, but then to give up Gaza, according t them helped strategically. Reason being that we didn't want them to build a fence but there it is and it's protecting Israel citizens of whom over 2 million are Arab.
So you have to read between the lines. There ain't goin to be another screw up like Iran again, at least with these guys at the wheel. But to save face and not get clobbered by the media they rattle. Now some deals they mean, but it's normally a bad situation and we really cannot do much about it, so it's a statement. Not sure it one of the libs gets in. Hope that helps. Take care.

I don't know anybody who would like it when people get in their face and order them around.
The party that starts telling another what it MUST do is assumed to be in a position of authority. The problem I think is that sadly, the US has a skewed mentality that they are the best, the one who holds authority over most, and the standard which other nations must follow (or else!). In some cases, the American foreign policy almost seems to be to meddle more than anything else. In their guise to make peace, it's war that ensues. Good diplomacy? More like bullying.
Re Venom's answer: Who looks at the US as "Parents of the free world"?? That's a completely arrogant view of yourself and the US. It's that kind of attitude that will someday completely alienate the US from the rest of the world. Americans with attitude like yours are xenophobic, which is precisely why you want the rest of the world to be just like you. Your fear of those whose society and culture are different from yours are the root of bad foreign policies and even worse foreign relations.

It may not be good diplomacy but, at times, for our own protection, we feel that we have to tell other countries what they must do or face the consequences. Countries like Iran. In the beginning of the nuclear question, Ahmadinejad said that he was going to blast Israel into the sea & use it against the U.S., when we told him to back off or else, he changed his story to he was only going to use the plutonium for energy. We don't believe him, does anyone else? When we told the Russians they must not enter W. Germany, do you think we should not have done so? Whenever we have use the words "you must not" to another country, it has been for the protection of our own country. If you are an American, then you have enjoyed the freedoms of this country because we have use those words to protect you. If you are from another country, then perhaps our use of those words benefited your country along with ours.

I will answer your question since no one else has so far. I personally do not like it when someone gets in my face and tells me what I must do. I think its reasonable to assume that these other countries do not like it one bit. As to the comments about them getting our money, well we give them money because it helps serve our interest. By accepting money, the countries do not relinquish their sovereignty or their pride.
Americans are so so ignorant and so selfish and so stupid. No wonder so many hate our guts. All you have to do is read these arrogant postings on yahoo.

you are missing the big one. We give those countries lots of money. If I am giving you lots of money (and you need it to survive) I will tell you what you must do.

Might makes right...
If we are going to be looked at as Parents to the freeworld..you are damn right we are going to push our weight.
Every organization in the U.S. - from PETA, American Red Cross, Global Warming freaks...will exploit the status of the U.S. to meet their agenda.
Consider it the end that justify the means...
