what stuctural aspects influenced the need for the social movement? were political linkages not working correctly ? was govermental action not sufficient?

They continue to demonstrate the disconnect between the will of the people and the actions of their government.

They served a political purpose in the 2006 mid-term elections. Even they have figured out, they are of little use to either side now.
