Only about 30 miles away but a fairly congested corridor of traffic along I-215 if you plan to commute consider using public transit. Omnitrans buses (Route #90 San Bernardino to Riverside) combined with RTA riverside county buses (route 24 from Riverside south) can get you through the traffic and allow for a stress free commute. Temecula is actually nearest to San Diego as far as a major metro area.

You should have asked this in either Los Angeles or San Diego as both are closer than San Francisco.

It's about 50 miles between the two, about an hour unless something weird is happening with traffic (which I've encountered a few times), in which case it can be a lot longer.
