A passionate life is a more difficult life. The easy thing(at least in the short run) is to not take any chances, not express yourself, conform to what others think you should think, feel and do. To protect your heart from being broken, from dissappointment. This is easier in the short run but in the long run you will feel your life has no meaning.
When you put yourself out there, love what you love, hate what you hate, really try for what you want, you take risks of a broken heart and dissappointment, which are painful. But the good news is that you can recover from a broken heart. You can handle dissappointment without dying. As a matter of fact, these painful feelings are powerful learning tools, will shape who you are, and make you a stronger person. Of course you need successes also to build your confidence and offer encouragement. But nobody lives a full life without failing every now and then.
Living this way you will get some people who don't like you and/or aren't happy with you. But that won't matter so much because the most important person, YOU, will be happy with you. And your life will be full of meaning. Your friendships will be more satisfying because you will know they like the real you, not the conformed you.

No. It'd be foolish to not be passionate! I don't know about you, but it's the people whose lives only consist of breathing, sleeping, and eating that get on my biggest nerve. There are way to many people out there not realizing what we're capable of. The only thing worse than believing in the wrong thing is being stuck in that "grey area".
Of course, there has to be a balance. People should always be open minded and open hearted. If not, they're missing out on the lessons that life has "ever-so-passionately" offered them. It's the whole point.
So, it's kind of like this: Hold your beliefs close to your heart. Go ahead, advertise. But always be open for a debate, and when you lose, admit it and carry on- the new beliefs replacing the old ones.

It can be - it depends upon what your passion is. If your passion is hatred and you want to eliminate racially inferior people, then I'd say that that is worse than foolish, it's mindless and evil. A harmless passion like for insects can lead to a deep knowledge about them and maybe even a lucrative career. A passion for music can be very liberating and creative, and the same can be said for physics, mathematics, or child rearing.
Passion has to be guided by the intellect, but not stilted by it. It's a little bit like learning to ride a horse, or surfing - balance is critical to living a sane life.

No, if you live life passionately than you are living life to the fullest, and you learn more, experince more, and in the end people remember you for your deeds rather than not for doing anything. Its a way to leave a legacy no matter how great or small.

I think it's a matter of temperament. If you feel passionate, go ahead. If you feel cautious, there is no imperative to change and be passionate. It's not a matter of prudence.
