Yes, unfortunately, I know about them. They are HORRIBLE places. That's one of the reasons why you should always adopt a pet from a shelter, and NEVER, EVER buy one from a pet store. No matter what they tell you, those puppies come from a puppy mill. And - this will shock you - one of the worst areas in the whole country for puppy mills? Lancaster Country, Pennsylvania - the Amish are the chief offenders. We stopped at a farm there a couple years ago in response to a "Puppies" sign. We ignorantly presumed the farmers dog had had puppies.....boy, were we wrong. When we got out of the car, from an outbuilding we could hear HUNDREDS of dogs barking. The woman we spoke to wouldn't let me go with her to the building, and the 2 puppies she brought out were terrified when we touched them. When I commented to her that they didn't seem to be used to human contact, she totally blew off my question. Needless to say, we did not leave with a puppy. I have talked with people from there, including the owner of a pet supply company, who told me that they treat the puppies as a crop, not as potential family members. When they feed the dogs, they mix food and water together, and don't give them separate water to drink. And you don't want to know how they "dispose" of unwanted puppies or breed stock that have outlived their usefulness. There's so much more to the business of puppy mills. It just about makes me ill to think about it. Follow the link below, and you'll get a good education on the mills.

A puppy mill is a place where they breed an animal over and over again with no regards of it's health just for money.

I once thought as puppy mill was a place that bred dogs and took care of them. I had no idea these poor animals were locked up in cages until they were adopted. It makes me sick. It should be illegal if it's not already.

even better, go to nopuppymills.com
all pet store dogs are puppymill dogs. sickening.
recently, I saw a quote from Steve Rook, who is president of the largest puppymill in the US, Hunte Corp.... here is a piece of what he said (and the source):
''When we started 16 years ago, we saw a niche to improve standards and practices and we remain focused on that philosophy,'' Hunte said. ''We also founded the company for God and to carry God's word.''

Puppies! I love them.
But once they become dogs, I don't really see any use of them. They're not as cute anymore. We need to find someway how we can make them stay puppies forever.
Oh And those mills are stupid.
