To me, Neil Young is the epitome of how to build a career within the music business and succeed on your own terms. Like you mentioned, he has an incredibly diverse catalogue that stands up on its own merits and has remained relevent to the times from album to album. From his days of Ohio (and the Kent State situation) to his refusal to sell out on This Note's For You to his opinions of the modern times on Prairie Wind, he has stated his opinion and refused to back down. He has placed an emphasis on his regards for modern music, taking young acts such as Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., Blind Melon, and Pearl Jam on tour to promote their styles. While everything he touches might not turn to gold, everything that Neil Young has done comes straight from his soul.

My favorite tune of his is Cowgirl In The Sand. That song is just straight out amazing.

Neil Young... what can I say.
He has a unique, amazing voice and do you think he would make it through American Idol? NO! That's why that show is a freaking joke.
Neil Young has more popularity and better music than those people ever will.
He is a beautiful songwriter and one of the best lyricists I have ever seen. Songs like After The Goldrush and The Needle and the Damage Done send chills up and down my spine. I've never heard a Neil Young song I haven't liked and I don't think I will.

I live and breathe Neil Young. I saw him twice 2 weeks ago, spending the extra and getting 2nd row. I like it when Neil ROCKS. Spirit Road was amazing! I have made friends from all over the world through the combination of Neil Young and the internet. Rock & Roll Can Never Die!

-I'm The Ocean
-Like A Hurricaine
-Shots (I love this song not so much for the song as the memory of a concert, Neil said the outside venue felt like his back yard)
-Powderfinger

I could go on and on, it's pretty difficult to narrow my favorites down.

Wonderful musician - did you manage to see his concert on TV - Heart of Gold?

He explained how he came up with some of the songs, including "old Man"- the man was the caretaker of the ranch Young bought and still owns.

Sugar Mountain thrilled me as a child, still does - my favorite albums of his are still Harvest and Harvest Moon. People in the stores next to mine are sick of it by now - lol! Needle and the Damage Done is also a good one.

I just like the "style" - the way he throws in a minor chord here and there...

Fave CSNY songs? Teach Your Children, Our House, and Find the Cost of Freedom is the top. It is most telling, then and now.

Ohio strikes a chord, because my mother went to protest the moving of the monument at Kent state. I was 12 then.

He's a very diverse artist with a gentle quietness that can become hard rockin.

I love his self titled album that Joni Mitchel did the artwork for. The Old Laughing Lady is amazing. I was fortunate to catch CSN&Y on there reunuion tour several years ago. Neil outshined all of them!

Love him, Darth. He is someone I would love to sit down and have a few beers with. There is something very down to earth and approachable about him, and he's someone that was completely unaffected by everything fame may have thrown in his direction. Not only would I love to hear all of the stories he has to tell, I feel like I could learn a lot from him.

I'm not as familiar with all of his stuff as I should be, but I adore his "Harvest Moon" album. The title track and "Unknown Legend" are two that are sticking out in my mind right now.

Good thing you mentioned CSNY, I love CSNY. My favorite song that ever involved Neil Young is a CSNY tune, Teach You Children. I also do enjoy Buffalo Springfield (it seems like everything Neil touches ends up good).
I love Neil Young, everything he does, and his most recent albums Prarie Wind and Living With War were good and not many classic rockers can maintain their musical ablities over the years.

I haven't listened to too many Neil Young tracks, but I love him. He's a great guitarist and songwriter. I wouldn't say he was as diverse as you say, but then again I haven't listened to much of him. I've heard him play folk, hard rock, and proto-grungish music. I think David Bowie's more diverse. Neil Young is a fantastic lyricist though.
