My school had this play as well. Here's some tips:
1) If there are two parts to a song ( like Breaking Free ) sing only one part. I had a person playing piano, so she sang the other part.
2) Keep your voice at a level. Don't go high on one part and then really low on the second. Choose a song that fits you really well.
3) For dancing, don't get really jumpy. For my play, we had a dance director come to our school and teach us some dance moves. They also chose the lead roles from our practice performance.
Even if you don't make the lead role, you can still make the chorus part! Everyone will get a part!
The rest is just to practice alot, be calm and patient, and hope for the best. And don't drink any milk on the day of the auditions. That's from my chorus teacher ^_^
Good luck!!! Hope you get the lead role!!!
PS- This year's play we're doing a Seussical. O_O I rather do HSM again.

1. Acting tips.
Pay very close attention to your scene partners, those other actors with whom you are auditioning, and continue doing that after you get cast, during rehearsal and during performances. Listen really hard. Even in a scene where you are supposed to be ignoring someone, you may look away from them, but you should still be listening to everything they say, and how they say it. Then just say your lines.
Don't try to be anything or anyone other than yourself either. (At least for now. You are just beginning.) No funny voices or accents, no walking with a limp, no funny posture -- unless the script specifically calls for it. By just being there listening and saying your lines as naturally as you can, you will come of as confident and a character will magically appear to the audience.
2. Singing tips.
Unless you have excellent singing abilities right now, consider getting some vocal coaching. Your music teacher can help you with either coaching you him or herself, or they can recommend someone who can.
3. Little tricks...
Hmmm, sorry. No tricks. Acting is one of the hardest things to do. Everyone underestimates how difficult it is to portray a character on stage or screen.
I'll give you a couple of standard performing tips. Stand still. Don't move unless you feel you must move. Otherwise you will just look nervous. Speak clearly. Know your lines.
Treat it like the hard (but fun) work that it is and you will be great. Right now, you can't suddenly have years or performing experience, so try to keep it simple. After years of performing, you will always come back to keeping it simple anyway.
Good luck and break a leg.

Well I'll be frank I'm not an expert but there are a few fundamentals... When auditioning you want to work into your character--if you start crying on the on-start or on a heavy emotion you'll turnoff the directer. Make sure your posture is good. If your back is straight you'll get better air flow. To add, when singing, if your letting air out, you need to blow all the air out before inhaling because the body needs to rid itself of the carbon-dioxide--you'll sing better.
Be confident and prepare your lines!

It is natural to be a bit nervous about something that you feel is this important. In reality it is just another show and you would be happy to be involved with it in any way at all because that is how actors feel about shows and you are an actor, to want the lead only is to be much less than an actor, it is to be an egotist, which is very bad. My tip is to remember that acting is playing and playing is fun and therefore when you get up to do the audition things, you are getting up to have fun. Do that and show that you are enjoying acting, singing and dancing by doing it with energy and enthusiasm.

1. Enunciate, project, don't overact. Be sure you don't have your back towards the audience.
2. I don't have singing tips cuz I can't sing! lol
3. About your stage fright......my trick is to focus on your duties, on the people onstage.....and look over the audience, not at them. You'll forget they're there. But after your done rehearsing, you'll be fine.
Break a leg!!!

1. acting ...u know I hate the julia roberts school of acting (the cold its my job bit)...(like dwane wade in basketball...) look I get it, you r responsible and hardworking...
...be like a di caprio or a tommy lee jones or a denzel or a mel gibson...or a like Charlize Theron, kate winslet, penelope cruz...
let's face it, drama and acting are like painting...they are very artistic yet more encompassing of social and other issues...so the key is..do a canon-ball in freezing water not little by little...embrace it, want it, want it real bad...get into the character, be one with the character, show PASSION that's the key
practice and repetition are important but shallow without passion and conviction
