I'm 18, I want to shave my head and get a tattoo but my parents said no, and I know I can already get it but I don't want to hurt them. Is there a way to convince them to let me get it, if there is no way, what's the best way to minimize them getting angry or sad when I get my tattoo and shave my head?

It's not a small tattoo by the way, it's going to be large! two of them, one going down each arm. It's going to be as big as the picture below, except it's going to be in Arabic, I'm not going to tell you what it's going to say because it's really bad =) But my parents wouldn't know what it means.

Oh, by the way their Asian parents, so they're extremely strict and they go into crazy mode whenever **** happens. (You know what I mean if you're Asian).

Haha, Debi C, I'm still in high school and when I do graduate, I don't think I can pay off an apartment along with going to college and work full time for money at the same time.

OK, I think you need to worry more about being able to one day support youself instead of getting a tattoo that is going to cost several hundred dollars. You need to work on saving money and not blowing it.

You are 18. Legally, you can do what you want. However, if you are in your parent's house and they are very much against this, I wouldn't recommend it. it is going to cause a lot of tension, a big argument, and basically you're going to be stuck in an unpleasant situation, as you have already stated that you are not in a position to move out. I say wait until you are on your own and then do whatever you want with your money.

By the way, you say it's something "really bad". I don't even think I want to know, but I must warn you, what seems cool now....will it be so cool when you're a husband and a father in your 30's or 40's? A tattoo should be an expression of something that is meaningful to you....not just something that you want to get because you think it makes you look badass. That's just my opinion though.

The tattoo is a bad idea. Just because of the placement...it could hinder you when trying to get a job later on. Never get a tattoo that you can't cover with a t-shirt. Also, I would advice not getting anything offensive written on your body. Even if it is in Arabic...one of your classmates or coworkers may be able to read Arabic, and you don't want to tick people off.

Ok...so enough of my advice. What I would suggest to you is just waiting until you are in college. Do it while you are away at school, and just tell them it is a way of expressing yourself, it isn't like you are going to walk around bald for the rest of your life. Tattoos ARE permanent though...so make sure you really want one before you do it...

My house my rules. If you cannot be on your own try to get them to go with you to see you get it. And make sure it is something you can live with the rest of your life, and something that you would not be ashamed for your own futre children to see.
I have eight and I am the mom so, I don't see the problem, except I did not get my first one until after My Mother passed away so I can sympathize, I was 38 and have been out of the house since I was 18.

Well hun, you are 18 and your parents can't do anything about it if you do. This decision is up to you. There is no way to minimize how bad their reaction is going to be, they are going to feel however they want about regardless how it is presented to them.

If you really want this done then go for it but it seems like deep down inside you truly care what your parents think about you getting this done and deep down you want their approval so until both you and them are comforatable with this then you need to wait.

Im 18 too and Im wanting to get my belly button pierced and my mom doesnt agree with it so Im holding off till she can accept it more.

Join the marines. They will shave your head for free. And when you graduate from boot camp, you can go out with your new buddies and all get a tattoo.

just explain to them you respect their opinions but you really want to try things for yourself. start with the hair. explain to them it can always grow back and its something you would like to try before your out in the world where people are less accepting of stuff like that. There is always time to get a tattoo. but if you really want it now then explain to them why is so important to you.

It's easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.
