Most people have children and complain about the cost of raising them, some abuse them and other forms of neglect. Knowing this do you feel we should restrict people's choice to become parents?

I agree too many people are having children who have no business having children. Not everyone is intelligent enough to realize they are not fit to be parents. Then there are those who are aware of this and have children anyway. I suppose some people are just pressured into having children. I know my family is always asking me when am I going to have children and I give them the same answer which they write off as silly... "I'm not fit to be a parent and it would be financially irresponsible."
But how are we going to stop people from having children who shouldn't be having children? Most people don't even look at a person as being an unfit parent until after they've had their first child. It's a problem that's never going to go away.... unfortunately.

Most of the people who become parents don't CHOOSE to do so and that is half the problem. Not everyone is suited to parenthood and I think more research should go into birthcontrol that is long lasting, ie: depovera, so that people have to choose to be parents. there should be mandatory classes for people as well. LIke receiving your drivers' license. what you are doing affects society in the same manner as driving a car! You are producing and developing a person that will go out into the community.

It would make my job a lot easier, but I think having children is a basic human right. I would be in favor of a mandatory parenting class for all parents though.
