I am traveling to Orlando, FL for business and leisure in July 2008.

If I were to take public transportation from Orlando Int'l Airport to Downtown which bus line is convenient?

Being that is the weekend, I'd like to go to the gay discos/nightclubs as well, whereabouts is the "gay district" in Orlando?

What is a recommended hotel to stay at, not-necessarily gay-friendly cause I can blend in easily with any environment?

Being that my business is in the downtown area, I would still preferr to stay in the gay district.

Any information would be fully appreciated. Thank you!

Lynx bus 11 runs from the Airport to downtown terminal with no transfers. It takes about 45 minutes and runs every 30 minutes.

The local gay News Paper is the Watermark. They also have an on line site, http://www.watermarkonline.com

Any downtown hotel will be gay friendly. On the high end is the Grand Bohemian. The Parliament house which is near downtown is the largest Gay club and it is also a hotel. There is also Pulse on Orange Ave. The gay club scene is a bit off these days, but there are still plenty of neighborhood bars and restaurants: Paradise, Savoy, Wyldes, Friends, Hanks. Other mixed popular places: Peacock Room, Disney's Mannequins on Thursday night. A new club 'Revolution' is to open in the old Southern nights space.

These clubs are scattered all over town but are mostly close to downtown. Mills just south of Virginia is where you will find Paradise, Peacock Room and Friends Restaurant. Savoy in On North Orange, Pulse and Wyleds on South Orange.

The Thorton Park Neighborhood (Centered at Washington and Summerlin) is full of bistros, restaurants and shops, and is as close to a gay district as we have, but nothing exclusively gay. The Veranda Bed and Breakfast and Eola Inn are in that neighborhood. The Grand Bohemian and Embassy suites are just a few blocks away. All within easy walking distance of the Downtown Business District.

There IS no convienient public trans in Orlando. Take a cab or rent a car, it's not that far from the airport to downtown, and downtown isn't very big. Pick up a copy of "The Orlando Weekly" or go on their site. It's a free paper, on the street, and it'll tell you everything you want to know.

First, ditch the public transportation idea. Unlike in urban areas in the northeast, public transportation is an extremely inconvenient in most southern cities. Plus, when it's 90 degrees and extremely humid (like in July) and you're dressed for business, do you want to wait 45 minutes for a bus. Rent a car so you can ride in convenient air-conditioned comfort.

Also, since Southerners aren't known for their friendliness towards gays, there isn't a gay district in most southern citites (there are a few exceptions, but Orlando isn't one of them). There is the Parliament House which also has a hotel.

Hope this helps.

The largest "gay" bar in the area is The Parliament House.
It is in Orlando on Orange Blossom Trail (OBT). There is a hotel? there along with the club. I am sure there are other clubs in the area but I do not know the names or where they are.
