Baseball is the perfect mix of action and downtime. There are so many ways to enjoy it. As a fan at a game, there's usually enough action to keep me excited about the game, but there's also plenty of time to just sit down with friends and family and talk for a while. It is an escape.
I love to analyze things, and ninety percent of the game is half mental (thanks Yogi!). I'm the kind of fan who keeps score at games, and takes pride in being the coach with probably the most accurate and detailed high-school scorebook in New York City. The game is perfect for the analytical mind; there are big decisions to make at all times, and any moment can change a game. Any game can make history.
And there's the history. This game hasn't changed much over the last century. They said it best in "Field of Dreams:"
"America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But baseball has marked the time."
It's basically the same game that people have known for decades; when older people talk about it, younger people understand.
The history!! Seeing the changes the game HAS gone through is amazing. Maybe you should do what I do and try out vintage base ball. Look for an organization that does that. Even if you don't actually go out and play it, go out and watch it. http://www.vbba.org for more. Google Video also has a very funny segment in which Conan O'Brien tries it out with an organization that I am very familiar with. Run a search for Conan baseball.
Again, it's an escape. For three hours, we put aside everything else that's going on, just relax, enjoy this game, and enjoy the time with those we're with. There's just something about it that can't be truly matched by other sports. Not enough downtime in others. Don't get me wrong, I do LOVE other sports, like hockey. Still, baseball is unique like that.
I find that so much of what happens in life can be understood with an analogy to baseball. Sometimes you keep fouling pitches off, trying to hang in there until you finally get a good offering. Sometimes, you try to stretch a single into a double. Sometimes, you strike out. You can take just about any situation in life, explain it in terms of baseball, and people will understand. It's a bizarre phenomenon.
I just love this game!

Thats Cool that you Love the game of Baseball. What makes me so passionate about it is,that its hard to play and that makes it a Great game because everyone cant hit that ball when it pitched up there at a speed of 70-80mph,not to mention 90-100mph.Also you have a chance to see something that has never been done before every game. That in its self is amazing, considering all the games that have been played over the last 150 years. And then theres the spring, thats when every team starts dreaming that this is gonna be there year, and it could be,you never know.I have learned everything I've needed from the game I Love plus have made a living from it also.I was a College Umpire for 17 years and I miss being out there with those guys, the players and fellow umps.Baseball is the Greatest Game ever invented, thats just my opoinion of coarse.See you at the Ballpark.

It's America's pasttime. I got into it, honestly, because i had nothing to watch during the summer. Eventually though, i realized the beauty of the sport. I love baseball for its action, and necessity for amazing precision, speed and skill. I think it is very unique, seeing as the defense has the ball and controls the game. Another aspect in its uniqueness is that it has no time limit. I could be 35 minutes, or 12 hours. I just absolutely love that about it, and it is just so pure in my eyes. I can't get enough =)

Well, Why shouldn't you like baseball? It is America's pastime. It has such a great history. Such great controversy. But it's even better to play. Just to walk out on that dirt feild and know you are going to have a good time. Or stepping up to bat and hitting a basehit. It is the greatest feeling in the world. Makes you remind you to be a little kid. It is the greatest game in the world......

I love how it is not so fast paced and chaotic as football. I like to watch football, but with baseball there is so much history and I love the fact that there is no time limit (like the previous guy said). I agree with you baseball is so much easier to understand and it is one of the best ways to spend a summer night!

Same reasons you gave except for the part that you hate football because of the running around. Football is my second favorite sport.

Baseball? Such an amazing sport. I love it because of how you can be as patient as ever, no time limit, no limit of timeouts nothing. Unlimited time on the baseball field..Sounds good to me! The atmosphere strikes amazing, and hearing the crowd after a game-tying homerun is just absolutely phenomenal.

Because..idk. xD I played t-ball. Then I saw them play baseball on tv. And I got hooked. Played catcher and out field for about 4 seasons. I love it. I love the feeling of going to the ballpark. I love the feeling of cheering when someone makes a great play. I love screaming when someone hit a game changing hit. I love everything about it.

It has a beauty and an essense that is unmatched in any other sport. Anyone can play it, and most of the time, you can wake up the next day and not have to use crutches or heat/ice packs to move around! :)
