Actually, the USA is doing quite well. It will change, which is what was contemplated by the wisest of our Founding Fathers, but that's progress.

Oh you must be young. That's OK I was young once too.
Most of the people here have already made the point well, but I'll add my two cents worth in also.
The environment / socialist economic / anti war panic mongers are just like the religious extremist panic mongers. To stay in business they have to make it seem like the end is near. For all your life you will turn on the TV and see that either Jesus, Pollution (The 'threat' changes every 15 years or so), or the balance of trade deficit, or deficit spending, or communists, or terrorists, or something will always be about to bring about our end. It's just a game they play to keep the pot churned and keep themselves on top.
The reality is that pollution is nothing compared to what it was when I was young, this 'war' is a tiny skirmish in historical terms, Religious folks of every faith have been waiting on the end of the world for at least 7,000 years, and we've been running deficits of every kind since well before I was born and I'm pushing 50 and it never amounted to a thing. Study economics and you'll learn why.
So the thing you should be concerned about is personal success not national success or global success, and the #1 thing that will bring that about is don't follow anyone who preaches doom and gloom, never bet on anything extreme, and find a way to buy and hold on to real estate because that will pay your bills in the future and will make you immune to inflation caused by deficits and political ups and downs. And don't believe what they tell you on the news. Remember their job is not to tell you the truth but to get your attention with something sensational so they can make money on advertisers.
Good luck and Merry Christmas

There are many variables which we have to consider:
1) Climate change could upset the entire earth - climate changes have been occurring for ages (ice ages, tropic ages,) even without mankind's help, so the U.S. could fall with natural disasters.
2) Our population is not increasing from within any longer, but increasing from immigration - and if the influx rate is faster than our country can assimilate, then we will loose our ethics, our values, all those beliefs which made us succeed. (like freedom, faith, respect, honor, and rewarding hard work.)
3). We are becoming more and more reliant on other nations, even selling major pieces or real estate to other countries (like Japan, China and Saudi Arabia)
4) Our children are not keeping up with other countries academically during their primary school years. Students from other countries come to the U.S. for university and they are better prepared to succeed. After getting their degree, they often return to their home country.
5. Free trade agreements have moved jobs to other countries, leaving America's most vulnerable population, the middle and lower class, at higher risk economically.
That being said, pollution is better controlled now in the U.S. than it was in the 1970's; recycling and alternate sustaining energy sources are increasing rapidly. Many of the factories which were large polluters are now located in China where the regulations are not nearly as strict as they are here.
The biggest threat to America is the moral decay, the deterioration of the work ethic, and the acceptance of mediocrity. There has been an alarming break down of family support systems, drug and alcohol use has skyrocketed, and individual responsibility to our communities and the nation have all but disappeared.
It is true that when America falls, the world will stumble. I foresee a type of Middle Ages, similar to Europe after the fall of the Roman Empire, but I don't think it will be that drastic.
I'm in my 50's now. A friend of mine died in 2002, when SHE was 102. She was very lucid until her last months and we would have long discussions about the changes in the U.S. over the past 100 years. As far as she was concerned, (and I agree with her) We Americans were given a beautiful world....I believe our country saw the height of her glory the day before Kennedy was shot. It's been downhill since then.

America will cease to exist only when it's people stop perservering and striving to be the best. When we stop caring for the rest of the world. And when the government is taken over by mealy mouthed, linguine spined people like you. So instead of yammering about what's wrong about America, what are you willing to do to make it better?
America's ecomomy will not be destroyed by the war. It will be destoyed by the distribution of wealth so that eventually everyone lives at the same level of misery except for the elitists who control the money and the lack of opportunity.
Capitalism is the unequal distribution of wealth by merit.
Socialism is the equal distribution of weath by force.
Please substitute the word Communism for Socialism.

Oh Boy !!! If you represent the thinking of the coming generation we are in DEEP TROUBLE!! Thankfully there are very few with a warped sense driven by fatalists like Gore ( He is making millions from foundations he fronts) and loves it when Chicken Littles say " The Sky is Falling!! The Sky is Falling!!". America will survive long after the skeptics are gone , long after you and I are gone, long after non scientific pontiffs are gone,. So live in peace . Don't worry about things over which you have no control .
