Hard Drive Passwords are pretty much impossible to bypass, even the manufacturer usually can't (and don't ever try to remove the CMOS battery on a laptop, it won't do a thing to help with any password problems you may be having).

The manufacturer can remove the BIOS power-on and supervisor passwords for a fee (and proof that you own the laptop) but not a Hard Drive password.

Not sure how the hard drive password got on there in the first place.
