Constant surveillance of curriculum, communication and participation in their day to day studies and school activities...Further, make it a point to meet each and every instructor your child is exposed to and inquire as to their ultimate goal in the education of your child.

Your best bet would be to home school them. Of course, home schooling takes a monumental commitment on the part of the parent. This commitment is further complicated by a socio-economic system that insists that all working class parents must both hold a job to get by in this increasingly socialist society. Neat how they have us with our hands tied here, huh? Further complicating the issue is the liberals policies that tend to encourage single parenthood, which would again rule out home schooling, unless liberals have their way and just exempt single, liberal parents from having to hold a job and pay their own bills! See how the whole system kind of works together for liberal law makers? I find it interesting that the questioner closes with the comment on giving our kids a "FIGHTING" chance, and then wishes us "peace". I am not sure if it is an oxy-moron, or the best possible description of the true path to peace for freedom loving individuals!!!! I am sure that a lot, heck, the vast majority of teachers are good people. That being said, I remind everyone that when you give any person a power over you and your family, bad things inevitably occur. There is an "
us vs. them" mentallity with teachers just as with police and government officials that automatically disqualifies them from acting in our best interests. We may not like to admit it but the quote years ago from the head of some teachers union that when he is paid to represent students and parents instead of the furthering of teachers self interests, he will do so, until then....etc..

I happen to think we must show the both sides so they can form their mind to see right from wrong( right and left). But to not let the socialist not teach is as wrong as the do by not letting the other side express their or our views. We see it and it gives us the chance to show them by example.
Like say to your child " do as I say and not as I do" or " you can not drink and get drunk but I can" or " I can curse but you can not"
These may be small examples but they will understand them. And when they see the light of right and wrong and how the school is one sided you must teach them to stand up for them self even when they may get i n trouble. So when they say to a teacher this is not correct and give the back of fact and they get a low grade for daring to stand up for them self you the parent must back them up and take the child to talk to the teacher and show him that you will not allow this to happen and go before the school board as well.

And if this is not being a parent tell what is.

home school.... baring that the only thing one can do is to really interact with your kids and teach they a real value system.. and teach by example.. live the life.. don't tell your kids that corruption in public office is wrong, then bring office supplies home from work... Hopefully by the time they go off to collage they will know enough and be sure of themselves enough that they can resist the propaganda often taught there woven into the curriculum...

Stand up to the Conservatives' attempt to destroy the chances and aspirations of working class children by provding them with substandard education in poorly funded state schools.

Maintaining an open line of communication to your child is the most important one thing you can do.

through all his years in school I tried to communicate with my son and explained to him the real reason some things were done and why the school he was in told him something other than the absolute truth.

He turned out just fine.

Make them work for anything they want and everything they get. If you just give it to them they grow up thinking the world owes them a living.

Close the Department of Education and let schools be in their own local districts that pay for them.

They are all "Independent school districts" who don't need input from the federal government.

The large arm of the Fed needs out of local communities that pay for schools. All the way from curriculum to prayer should be decided by local "INDEPENDENT" school districts.

This is how our country was founded and education was.

Sadly you can not in the public school system. Studies prove, proper home schooling rears much greater results in S.A.T. scores. Once again the government believes they know how to raise the kids better than the parents.
