if you're a windows user I blame vista for that... they made that OS such a resource hog, that's why you need a much sophisticated hardware to use that OS today. basically if you're going to buy a PC i recommend to get the specs for gaming, even thou you do not play games the specs of that pc can save you money coz you wont buy a pc in the next 2-5 years. unlike some basic setup, you'll have to upgrade to be able to run programs which requires a big spec of hardware..

watch out windows 7 is coming in 2010

because its faster and can work twice and triple for example Intel core quad that triple the processor so you can get:
3.0Ghz x3(maybe)=9.0 ghz.....
