good question
Like any girl that choses to play hockey would mind getting a little bruised up!!! They knew what they were getting into by playing it, it shouldnt matter what gender someone is...even though i dont play hockey, i would want checking to be a part of the game. If there isnt checking, a major aspect of the game is lost. We should try and get checking into womens hockey...

The girls on my team have been asking this for years. We all would like to play check. I have been checked in many games. ( no calls) I have also put out a few. ( no calls either). But most of us playing now, that have been playing, started playing with guys. So we know to give/take a check. The sexist rule does need to change. But I don't know when it will. The USA hockey rules committee is very slow at change when it comes to women's hockey. Only next year will we get a 30 & over championship. But there is still no D/Rec level national championship, that is the biggest area of women's hockey. They are the girls whom have just picked up the sport. So I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that this changes sooner rather than later.

There's no reason for this rule any more.
But I would hesitate to suddenly introduce bodychecking at a high level in any league after years of no contact, no matter whether it's men or women.
Hitting should be introduced at a younger age so that girls could grow up with it gradually because there's two aspects to body contact ... hitting and defending yourself against being hit.
The first is pretty easy.
But defending yourself is an entirely different matter — keeping your head up in the neutral zone, not watching the puck after you make a pass, getting in tight against the boards in the corners, turning away from a checker to take some of the force out of the hit, getting your gloves and stick up against the glass for balance just before you are about to get pasted, learning to keep your stick down — takes a lot practice and coaching before it becomes a natural habit. Even learning how to fall after you get hit is a bit of a talent.
I think checking should be allowed in girls hockey, but you have to be careful about how you quickly you make the switch.

My answer is it's a traditional rule. Women have been playing hockey for nearly as long as men. If you go back that far women were considered more gentile and fragile so the banging and crashing was just not acceptable. And so it's carried forward to modern times.
(This is a much better answer than my original thought believe me.)
Green: mindless, sexist drivel, believe me. Sometimes the best answer is the one you keep to yourself.

It does seem like a double standard, but just a thought... since for it to be safe enough to impliment, proper safe checking and physical play is taught at a young age, and people still have trouble sometimes making safe plays. It's a double standard, but I don't believe many parents at the entry level would allow their daughters to do such things. Just my opinion, some might.

Yeah, it's a ridiculous standard. Even when I watch women's international hockey, there's always something missing without the bodychecks. I thought we're living in the age of equality (as close as we'll ever get anyways), so why not let have bodychecking in women's hockey?

Haha, i would love to see chics bangin' each other into the boards.
but that could just be my hormones speaking.
but in all fairness, Girls SHOULD be able to bodycheck, and i think the fact that they have to wear cages, and dont have a choice, unfair also.

If checking was "allowed" in girls hockey, the only people happier than the girls would be the plastic surgeons.
