Generally, the faster the speed, the better the service for xbox and other internet operations. Latency changes the equation though.

Here's the somewhat generally available highspeed options in order of fastest to slowest.

1. Verizon FIOS: fiber optic to the modem
2. Cable: Fiber to RG6 cable to the modem
3. AT&T Satellite: Digital RF to dish RG6 to the modem
4. DSL: Fiber to Cat5 to the modem
5. Other Satellite: Digital RF to the dish RG6 to the modem

Satellite will always suffer more latency due to the distance the signal has to travel. Even if you lived next door the the satellite companies uplink transmitter, you'd still receive a signal that has traveled 44,000 miles (to the satellite and back to your dish) so gaming won't be as robust as with other services.
