It's all about the money. Shows either make it or not based on viewer support. A small percentage of Americans have boxes attached to their televisions that are tracked by a company called Neilson. Neilson publishes reports on what channels those people are watching and decisions are made based on those results. ie The price of a 30 second commercial rises and falls based on the "share" points that the show has in it's time slot. Commercials are how companies like The Family Channel pay their bills and earn money.
