I have never seen a Republican on the News in Baghdad shinning a soldiers boots or ironing his uniform. No Republicans there in alAmbar tucking in the Marines for a good nights sleep.

What kind of support do they give Lip Service?

I was in all kinds of Combat and never once did a Republican stop by to ask if I needed any help.

Not one single Republican offered to take my watch so I could get some sleep.

I went from 205 pounds to 119 pounds and not one single Republican offered me a bite to eat.

It sounds nice. Quite patriotic. Results count for more then rhetoric to me. When I see news reports about disabled vets being told to return their enlistment bonuses because their injury was not an excuse for failing to complete their contract, I find it difficult to associate that with supporting our troops. When I hear about veterans hospitals that cannot afford janitorial service that also doesn't seem like support.
Saying you support the troops doesn't have a lot of meaning when you also support the government that makes a policy to betray them.

added:koalatcomics: I won't dispute all of these with you but one of them grates pretty bad. Fred Phelps of the Westboro Baptist Church who goes around protesting funerals is one of the most proudly conservative people on the planet so kindly do not associate one of your sides greatest heros with mine.

I'm a republican and I served in Baghdad. I didn't expect an entitlement such as free boot shining for all. Nor did I feel entitled to have someone tuck me in bed and read me a story every night. I didn't expect the government to give me someone else's shined boots because I was too lazy, poor, or somehow a victim where I couldn't get off my rear end and do it myself.
Besides, you wont see anyone shining their boots or ironing their uniforms, because no one irons the ACU's, and our boots are made of suede, especially in a combat environment.

isn't it logical that if the government differences the wellbeing care gadget, it is going to enhance? I mean, while the government controls costs, this reasons shortages and surpluses. Um..wait a 2d, those are undesirable issues. Now, i'm lost. If the pres replaced into so worried approximately HC costs, he does no longer have despatched trillions into an economy to create inflation of ALL costs.

Yeah thats about it. Who they ACTUALLY support is Bush's fascistic plans for the rest of the world, but they cannot SAY that, so they say they "support" soldiers, but say nothing when they are sent into harm's way for "Nation building", a job they are not trained to do, they have been sent into combat without adequate vehicle or body armor, their pay and benefits cut (twice int he last 7 years), the VA completely overwhelmed and has had THEIR budget cut, etc.

A better question might be to ask, "How many Republicans, who say they support the troops, have joined the military since the US invaded Iraq, specifically to give Iraq the democracy they SAY is the reason we are over there?"

I've spent 13 months in Iraq over the last 3 years....

I've never ironed a uniform or polished a boot in a combat situation. Nor do I need that kind of "support" from politicians.

I've never seen Republicans voting to cut funding for the supplies I need. I have however heard democrats call me a murderer and illegal occupant of a peaceful nation.

What kind of lip service is that?

there is no mass hysteria with the republicans so your question has no answer. if you look at the liberal extremist side its a totally different story
republicans dont concoct a fanciful mess about how unilateral surrender supports troops
republicans dont trash a families funeral of their soldier loved one by ranting ridiculous anti war slogans and diatribe
republicans dont offer half hearted support of funding bills riddled with pork spending clearly designed to buy votes and then whine when they dont get passed
republicans dont grandstand and stunt with terrorist sympathising countries like syria
republicans didnt get to power by masking confiscatory taxation and welfare schemes with a promise of a quick fix to al qaeda
...... but democrats did.

Jingoism.
The GOP loves to send troops to war for "patriotism" while the Dems love to send troops to war on humanitarian reasons.
Tar and feather unto both! Give me the good old Jeffersonians anyday!

I guess we all can't be a war hero with a chest full of medals like John Kerry (sic), but we support our troops none the less.
If your statement is true, than why do most military members vote Republican?? Because they know Lib-Dems don't support them, they use them.
