Does the assignment say you have to memorize a Shakespeare sonnet, or can it be a sonnet by any poet?
All sonnets are short (just 14 lines), and the rhyme and rhythm make them pretty easy to learn by heart. Find one you like online. Shakespeare's are easy to find, and so are sonnets by lots of other poets -- Claude McKay, Edna St. Vincent Millay, and E.E. Cummings, to name just a few. (Just type "sonnet" and "poet's name" into any good search engine.) Read the poem aloud a few times. When you put down the book or look away from the screen and try to recite the poem, you'll be surprised by how much of it you already remember. Then go back and read it aloud a few more times to learn the rest.

All shakespearean sonnets are exactly the same length, give or take a few syllables due to metrical variations. And since they're in iambic pentameter, they all have a good flow to them, so you can't really go wrong with any of them, in the realm of memorization. Now, you will almost certainly have difficulty in understanding them, but that shouldn't be a problem, since all you have to do is recite them. So pretend you're a parrot and get to work.

I looked over some of his sonnets last night, and of course counted syllables. In one particular poem, most lines had 9, but there were 10s and 11s too. Sonnet 116, which was read at my wedding, is off a bit. I love it though.

sonnet 130 (cxxx) is really just a series of jokes (my girlfriend's eyes aren't that striking, her lips aren't especially read, she isn't all that fair-skinned ...).
if you can get into the humour of the poem, it is pretty easy to remember.
