Most of the major characters are medical doctors - that is, graduates of medical school who have received a license to practice medicine. For most, it's never stated what, if any, area they practice in. Among the major characters, those who aren't doctors are Carla, who is a nurse; Ted, who is a lawyer; and the Janitor, who is a janitor.
