Maybe a long time in the future, but it would be a long deep drive to get across the Atlantic.

I don't think this "Siberian" tunnel will get far. It almost mirrors our former "Bridge to Nowhere".
First - how far is the gap in the strait? Fifty (50) miles? I wouldn't want to be in a tunnel for anything over one mile, let alone fifty.
Second - as another writer said, it's from Nome; a city/town that can't be driven into in the first place. Hello? And people think the national debt is high now. Whew!
No way, won't happen. So anything post-tunnel project matters are moot.

And people complain about Alaska's "bridge to nowhere"; I can imagine the tunnel to nowhere.
Think people! If there is a tunnel from Siberia to Alaska, then where? There are no roads beyond Nome where the tunnel would exit in Alaska. Can you say Trillions? as in dollars of construction to build a road through the arctic to connect with existing highways in Alaska. Now factor in the cost of the tunnel itself.
Now think about a transatlantic tunnel. It would have to be a floating tunnel, due to extreme depths, pressure, as well as construction costs, let alone environmental concerns.

Look at a map, and then try and see the difference between a Siberian/Alaskan tunnel, and a Trans-Atlantic tunnel.
It's really not hard to see the sheer distance difference.

Of course not......even in the shortest gap, a tunnel would still be lucrative because it would have to span thousands of miles, and cost more money then some countries have in their banks.
