Because they can and they know the chances of getting caught is slim. People wont pay 1 dollar per song if they know they can get it for free. Even if it is just 1 dollar.

Limewire itself is not illegal. In fact, a lot of legal music is on Limewire (with a Creative Commons licence).

Many people do, however, download copyrighted materials off of Limewire simply because it's easier than paying for the songs.

Yes Limewire is illegal however the problem that comes into stopping the creators of lime wire is that you download it onto your computer and the only way to find out if a computer has it on it is to search on the computer itself, and the US is just not ready to go to that extreme yet (because they don't care, and because they know that if they take limewire down then something else will come and take limewires place)

Limewire its self is not illegal, its the copyrighted material that it's users share using it. For example legal uses of Limewire could be sharing a video, photo, or song that you have made but if you share something that you don't have the rights to then that is illegal.

Limewire and some of the other download sites like it use a process called bit torrent. Basically what that means is that when you download a song, you are not just downloading it from one specific user. You are downloading a little piece from this user, a little piece from that user...and in the end, you have a complete song when you put all the pieces together. Technically it is not illegal to download pieces here and there. It is a loophole, and not at all what bit torrent capability was originally designed to do.

Some people just don't care about breaking the law. To be more exact it is the international copyright law they are breaking. Limewire does have legal uses to download non-copyrighted materials too. Using the program is not illegal to download public domain works like historic speechs and old movies (We're talking black and white here) from like the early 20th century. I think you would just be better off not using it, if you don't know the law.

It's not illegal as long as you click on the aggreement which says that you will not be downloading any copywrited material.
It is a Shareware program where people share their (copywrited music/video) with others. Limewire gets away with it becaue EVERYONE who sucessfully uses it clicks on that they will not download copywrited material.
There are only two choices---if you don't click this one on you can't get on the site.

Eventually these sites close down and new ones pop up. Limewire is available throughout the world.

It's not illegal; file-sharing is perfectly legal it's just uploading or downloading commercial music that is illegal. Some content (not much) on Limewire IS legal.

If you're wondering why it hasn't been shut down yet, it's because Limewire the program isn't illegal. If you're wondering why people download music illegally, it's because they see it as a victimless crime, don't want to pay, convenience, etc.

Its unlawful to get carry of copyrighted cloth of it, like songs and action pictures. You get a warning in the previous you get carry of the utility from the Limewire internet site and in the previous you get carry of something from it it somewhat is lacking a license.
