I am studying 3d animation which is one of the things i love, but i also love music. The problem is i am 19 and iv been playing for only a year(the flute), is there any chance for me to succeed in both careers? Most of my friends play an instrument and they are much better than me, but they always say to me that there is a spot for me as long as i get better in my instrument. I know many musicians have a second career. Whats your opinion musicians? if you have to be harsh in your answers please do so.

well you can have a main career and a secondary one. i say stick with the animation. the music since you only been doing that a year maybe only do small gigs or something. probably not something you want to base your life on. Flute? i dont know much about music but not sure how much you can do with a flute unless you are in an orchastra.

The music sounds like it may be a better hobby for now. but just keep doing what you love.

There's not much career opportunity for a flute player other than the symphony. I f you want a career with the symphony you should have started at age 5 not 18.

I would say get a regular job and study music as a hobby at this stage in your life.

Absolutely. If your 3d bent is toward entertainment the more skills you can juggle the more likely you'll get the gig.

Plus in interviews they expect you to be naturally creative and that to show up everywhere.

It's extremely tough, but on the bright side it's not working for some clueless slob of a boss.

Actually that's a lie. Clueless slob can show up anywhere. But at least it's cool.

In reality, most musicians, like most actors have "day jobs". You have to be very good and very lucky to make a living at it.
