you should make sure that the water temp is around 75 degrees, and the reason your turtle is not eating is because you just got him. He is still getting used to the new enviroment he is in. He will start to eat in a while. Also, visit this site for more info on your turtels and what to be feeding him- http://www.austinsturtlepage.com or http://www.redearslider.com

and here are the forums where you can ask questions that you are having with your turtles- http://www.turtleforum.com or http://www.redearslider.com/forum

Give him several days to settle in before feeding. Make sure your heat lamp is at correct temperature, you have a reptile UVB on for 12 hours a day, a water filter, a water heater, NO gravel or anything else on the bottom that can be swallowed. If lighting and temps are good, most turtles will eat just fine once they settle in.

Turtles want three things to be happy and healthy-

1. Good water- lots of water (10 gallons of water per inch of total shell length), warmed to 75-80F, and kept crystal clean with a good filter.

2. Good sun- good basking sites that are warmed to 90F and lit well, ideally with a bulb that offers UVB.

3. Good food- 1/2 pellets, 1/2 live or frozen/thawed fish foods like small fish, worms, krill, shrimp, etc.

When their needs are met, they usually eat like pigs- if they do not, something is wrong.

well, that's one of the symtoms of depression or serious tummy aches. do make an appointment with the vet.

your turtle could die by starving.
