thats easy when I was A kid, the old man bought us bicycle's for xmass each in our turn. however; back then they came in boxes and needed to be assembled, one frame everything else in peices. they were just standard bikes back then. the old man got off an afternoon shift on the 24 dec that year and stayed up half the night putting it together. he put it together in the fruit cellar the door ajar with the light on . I still remember seeing him with his cigarrette trying to put it together, he'd drop the odd screwdriver or wrench and curse, but not as loud as when he realized the wrong instructions where in the box boy did he curse at the sales clerk. He didn't get it finished till about 6pm the next day, even though he was tired he tried all night, that first night to get it done. One of my better memories of the old man...

I'm going to limit my answer to material things. The gift I remember most as a child is a "Johnny 7 One Man Army" toy gun I got one Christmas when I was probably around 7 years old. It was the COOLEST! It was a plastic machine gun that fired little missles too. it had fold down legs on the front so you could lay on your belly and shoot. It even had a grenade launcher! I was the coolest kid on the block with that thing. I loved it. I dug a "foxhole" out in the back yard and all the neighbor kids would come over and play army. Sadly, my Johnny 7 met an untimely end when I jumped into the foxhole with it in an attempt to save myself from an imaginary grenade. It broke right in half. I've looked at some of them on e-bay, but they are a collector's item now, and I'll never buy one, but it was fun to see them again. Oh and for any of you shocked that I played army with toy guns as a child, I also played cowboys and indians quite regularly and guess what? I grew up just fine. I haven't shot anybody yet.

A car!! It was great, my dad got me and my step brother matching cars. He wrapped the keys in a box. I thought it was jewelry! I was screaming like a lunatic, and crying. He had a huge huge party and there were tons of people around watching us open these little boxes. I still didn't get that it was car keys so he had us go to the window and look outside. The garage doors opened and both cars pulled out at the same time. I still didn't get it!! Who would think that someone would buy them a brand new car???? That was great!

My younger brother once gave me a Mercury Merkur that went 180 mph. I didn't exactly unwrap it but it had a big red ribbon on the top.

Someone broke into our home and stole all of my jewelry along with everything else they could carry. It was devestating. A friend of mine met me for breakfast a few days later and brought me a pearl bracelet. She said that no girl should be without her pearls. I'll never forget her thoughtfulness.
